Organisational Structure: Incorporated Society: The Council for International Development (CID) was formed in 1985 by a small group of aid and development agencies which identified the need to coordinate some activities and present a single voice on issues of common concern.
Governance Structure: Policy defined by members, expressed at AGM, administered through Board.
Number of Members: CID has over 50 members that include most of New Zealand’s major Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that work in aid, development and humanitarian response to natural disasters..
Description:

On behalf of its member agencies, CID:

  • builds cooperation between NGOs and lobbies government on international humanitarian, aid and development issues;
  • strengthens national and international links between organisations and individuals involved in international development;
  • liaises with government agencies, primarily the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), but also with Defence and Civil Defence;
  • coordinates NGO responses following international natural disasters;
  • raises issues with all political parties on international humanitarian aid and development issues; and
  • works to increase public awareness of international development needs and issues.
Current Activities or Key Strategic Focus Areas: Regular e-newsletter to members. CID talks are held in Wellington.
