Honiara – The development of an NGO Code of Minimum Standards for the Solomon Islands will be discussed in Honiara says the Pacific Islands Association of NGOs head, Emele Duituturaga.
Duituturaga says PIANGO staff , Alanieta Vakatale and Akmal Ali, will be facilitating sessions on the development of a CSO Code of Minimum Standards at this week’s Development Services Exchange strategic planning.
“As a member of PIANGO, DSE is not only Solomon Islands’ biggest umbrella NGO, it has also established itself as an effective partner with a diverse experience in human and community development on the ground,” she said.
“DSE is meeting on Thursday and Friday to plan their future work using both their experiences of the last three years and PIANGO’s new strategic plan to map this.”
“DSE’s Afu Billy will be leading this strategic planning so PIANGO staff are merely there to assist CSO affiliates of DSE on the development on a framework of a national code as well as provide connections for their deliberations to the new PIANGO strategic plan.”
Duituturaga said PIANGO’s role is to support the strengthening of National Liaison Units (NLUs) through capacity building and technical assistance.
“In this instance, the development of national codes of ethical practice for CSOs is an effort to improve development and aid effectiveness for PIANGO and its members.”
By developing these, she says, local NGOs hope funders and development partners are confident that NGOs are operating with good financial processes and that they are accountable to their beneficiaries and donors.
